In 1858, a gentleman by the name of Edwin Drake from Titusville, Pennsylvania drilled the first successful oil well in the nation - by 1863, just five years later, Drake had lost his entire life savings in the speculation of oil. Since the beginning, oil has been characterized in terms of shortages and surpluses - wars, fortunes, and millions of lives have been lost from this false belief. As we progress forward in the energy revolution, it's important to remember why the resource curse manifested in the first place. I'll leave you with this:
